A film production hub project in metro Phoenix has received initial approval from the Maricopa County planning and zoning commission. The proposed Desert Studios Complex aims to create numerous film studios and supporting facilities, potentially generating over 6,000 direct jobs and 5,000 indirect jobs in the Buckeye area. The project also received approval for a general plan amendment to accommodate various uses around the complex, including hospitality, restaurants, and retail, as well as a film-themed entertainment complex or theme park. The managing directors of the project are focused on developing the film industry in the Southwestern U.S., and they plan to start with around 40 studios, with potential for expansion based on demand. The project is expected to have a positive economic impact on the region.
