The Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix is planning to construct a Newman Center, a type of Catholic church commonly located near non-Catholic university campuses, across the street from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix. The 22,2480 SF facility will sit on a 2.1 AC plot and include a church for 306 parishioners, an adoration chapel, banquet hall, educational spaces, and administrative areas. The location, which has been vacant since 1953, was purchased by the diocese in 2015 for $1.104 M. Newman Centers are crucial for Catholic students, offering a nearby worship space and community. As GCU’s enrollment continues to rise, this new center will cater to an expanding Catholic student population.
