Developers are eyeing vacant sites around Glendale’s sports and entertainment district and the Loop 101 for new projects. A mixed-use development has been proposed by SimonMed’s CEO, John Simon, for 20 acres south of St. Joseph’s Westgate Medical Center, including 239 multifamily units and 13,000 square feet of commercial space. The Glendale planning commission has recommended approval for the necessary zoning changes. The project will feature two four-story buildings, a clubhouse, pools, and a standalone retail building. Additionally, the city is working on a master-planned commercial development on 200 acres nearby, which could bring significant employment opportunities. Plans also include a Dick’s Sporting Goods House of Sport and an Andretti Indoor Karting & Games facility along Loop 101.
